Melbourne Central VR Experience

Melbourne Central VR Experience

The Melbourne Central VR Experience was a project completed for the 50th anniversary of the Melbourne Central renovation project. Conceived as an installation situated in the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre throughout September 2016, the experience placed participants in Coop’s Shot Tower as it may have looked during its early operative years. Participants learned about the industry of shot creation by pouring molten lead through a colander and watching the droplets fall down through a central shaft in the structure.

Primarily a historical-recreation VR experience, the project involved an approach to development myself and the team hadn’t taken before. A primary goal of the project was to remain historically accurate – to this end we were partnered with Dale Campisi, a Melbourne-based historian, and I was given exclusive access to enter Coop’s Shot Tower to take photos.

The experience was used well over 1000 times throughout the month, almost three times the requirement originally set out by the client.
