Drawing Machine was a processing sketch designed to replicate exactly the behaviour of the machine featured in this video:
These images are called Harmonographs – the images created by the relationships between multiple harmonic functions. Being code-based, I was able to speed up its drawing ten-thousandfold and slowly morph the parameters over time, allowing me to see the pattern behind the pattern and the effect different parameters had on the final product.
I eventually ported the algorithm to three dimensions and eventually to Unity for viewing in VR.
